Entrance standards for military schools

(Baonghean) - As one of the leading provinces in the country in the number of students passing the entrance exams to military academies, universities and officer schools for many years, the provincial Military Command has always identified the recruitment work as a key task. At present, the recruitment criteria have been announced, creating conditions for candidates in the province to access, learn and follow the correct processes and procedures.

Accordingly, the subjects of enrollment include: non-commissioned officers and soldiers serving in the army according to the provisions of the law on military service, with a service period of 6 months or more (as of April of the year of enrollment), professional soldiers, defense workers and employees serving in the army for 12 months or more (as of September of the year of enrollment); young men outside the army (including discharged soldiers), the number of applicants is unlimited; young women outside the army and female soldiers.

For young women outside the military and female soldiers, the Ministry of National Defense only recruits 10% of the quota for the following majors: military doctor at the Military Medical Academy, International Defense Relations and Foreign Languages ​​at the Academy of Military Science; and recruits a maximum of 10% of the quota for the following majors: military engineer in Information Technology and Telecommunications at the Military Technical Academy.

In particular, regarding health standards, the Ministry of National Defense stipulates the selection of candidates (both male and female) who have achieved type 2 health in the following criteria: internal medicine, neuropsychiatry, surgery, dermatology, eyes, ear-nose-throat, teeth-maxillofacial, chest circumference according to the provisions of Joint Circular No. 36/2011/TTLT-BYT-BQP dated October 17, 2011 of the Minister of Health and the Minister of National Defense guiding the health examination for military service.

Specifically:

-Schools for training command, political, and logistics officers, including academies: Logistics, Air Defense - Air Force, Navy, Border Guard and officer schools: Army 1, Army 2, Politics, Artillery, Engineering, Armored, Information, Special Forces, Chemical Defense require male candidates to be 1.65m or taller and weigh 50kg or more.

-Schools training professional and technical officers, including academies:Military Engineering, Military Medicine, Military Science, University of Culture and Arts of the Army, Aviation Engineering Training System of the Air Defense - Air Force Academy and the Military Technical Officer School stipulate: Male candidates must be 1.63m or taller, weigh 50kg or more; Female candidates must be 1.54m or taller, weigh 48kg or more. Candidates with refractive errors of nearsightedness or farsightedness of no more than 3 diopters, vision test through glasses must be 10/10 for the right eye, total vision of both eyes must be 19/10 or more.

- Candidates with permanent residence registration of 3 years or more in region 1, islands and candidates who are ethnic minorities, applying to schools must have level 2 health in terms of physical strength, male candidates must be 1m62 or taller.

- Male candidates who are ethnic minorities applying to the Political Officer School must be 1m60 or taller (other standards are implemented according to regulations).

- Officer training subjects of military branches and services, if selected based on their own health standards, must still meet general standards.

- Pilot recruitment at the Air Force Officer School only selects candidates who have undergone a health examination by the Air Defense - Air Force Service and have been found eligible for admission to military pilot training.

Each candidate must complete two separate application forms: one application form for the preliminary selection issued by the Military Recruitment Board of the Ministry of National Defense, and one application form for the National High School Exam issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Candidates who are young people outside the military register for the preliminary selection and buy the preliminary selection documents at the Military Recruitment Board of districts, cities and towns; candidates who are active soldiers register for the preliminary selection and buy the preliminary selection documents at the regimental level unit or equivalent. Please note that candidates must write and fill out the preliminary selection registration forms and documents themselves and submit the documents in person within the prescribed time.

The Military Department of the Provincial Military Command said that currently, the plan for organizing the implementation of the enrollment work has been finalized, specifically: from March 25 to March 31, candidates can go to the Military Departments of districts, cities, and towns to register, undergo a preliminary examination, and purchase documents; from April 1 to April 10, a health examination will be conducted. For any questions that need to be answered, candidates can directly contact the Military Admissions Department of the Military Departments of districts, cities, and towns.

In 2015, the whole province had 4,125 candidates registered to take the entrance exam to military officer schools, an increase of 178 candidates compared to 2014. Accordingly, 3,760 candidates were reviewed and files were created for qualified candidates. As a result, in the 2015 exam, the whole province had 587/3,760 candidates passed, reaching a rate of 16%, the district with the highest number of successful candidates was Do Luong with 67/251 candidates.
