Destroy 1,500 ducks infected with AH5N6 flu

On the afternoon of November 1, Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong - Head of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Nghi Loc district confirmed: In Nghi Van commune, an AH5N6 flu outbreak has occurred in a flock of ducks. The unit is currently coordinating with local authorities to direct the work of zoning and controlling the epidemic.

Previously, on the morning of October 31, Nghi Loc District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station received a report from Nghi Van Commune People's Committee about the mass death of ducks at Mr. Tran Phu Khoi's family in Lang hamlet. The Station's leaders immediately sent officers to the scene to direct the handling.

According to Mr. Khoi, his flock of ducks consisted of 1,500, raised in open fields. From October 29, the flock began to die en masse. By the morning of October 31, about 720 ducks had died and about 280 were sick. It is known that his entire flock of ducks had not been vaccinated against avian influenza.

Although the test results were not yet available, Nghi Van commune authorities collected the dead ducks to destroy them according to regulations. By noon on November 1, the Veterinary Department of Region III announced that the sample tested positive for AH5N6 flu.

Immediately, the work of isolating and stamping out the epidemic in the commune was directed by the Nghi Loc District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station and the Nghi Van Commune authorities. The remaining ducks of Mr. Khoi's household were destroyed on the afternoon of November 1 according to regulations./.
