The situation of social evils and crimes in Nghe An is complicated.

According to the self-inspection report of Nghe An province, in 2017, the situation of social evil crimes was still complicated; 34 cases related to crimes under the jurisdiction of the Security Investigation Agency were discovered, 824 cases related to crimes violating social order; drug crimes increased compared to 2016 and still have great potential, emerging is the situation of some groups of subjects (including foreigners) carrying guns to organize illegal drug trafficking in mountainous areas of border districts.

Although the number of drug addicts detected has decreased, there are still many. The whole province currently has 6,901 drug addicts with management records. Notably, the trend of using synthetic drugs and crystal meth is increasing, especially among teenagers.

Faced with that situation, Steering Committee 138 of Nghe An province promptly advised the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Council and directly directed sectors and localities to effectively implement solutions to prevent crimes and violations of the law.

The results achieved were quite comprehensive, the rate of investigation and discovery of cases violating social order was high (87.37%), in which 100% of very serious, especially serious, and complicated cases occurring in the area were investigated and clarified.

Maintain and build many new models with high efficiency in the fight against crime, ensuring security and order. Thereby, in 2017, 3 models were recognized, commended, and announced by the Ministry of Public Security for learning experiences nationwide.

However, Steering Committee 138 of Nghe An province also realized that the coordination work to launch a movement for the entire population to participate in preventing and fighting crime and protecting national security was sometimes and in some places not very effective, especially in special areas.

After listening to the report on crime prevention and control in Nghe An in general and Vinh City in particular in 2017, Comrade Nguyen Hai Phong - Permanent Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy acknowledged and highly appreciated the effectiveness of the operation of Steering Committee 138 of Nghe An province.

At the same time, it is recommended that Steering Committee 138 of Nghe An province continue to fully grasp the direction of the Central Government, thereby training and drastically implementing crime prevention and control work in 2018; regularly and closely inspect activities at the grassroots level, especially in key areas, to ensure practical effectiveness.

Comrade Nguyen Hai Phong also requested relevant units to strengthen coordination, create consensus and common awareness among law enforcement agencies, and fulfill the responsibility of maintaining security and order in the area.
