UN court orders Russia to respond to Ukraine's claims
(Baonghean.vn) - The United Nations International Court of Justice has ruled that Russia must submit a Memorandum of Understanding on Ukraine's claims in Kiev's lawsuit against Moscow before December 8, 2020.

"By its decision of 8 November 2019, the International Court of Justice has set a deadline for submitting Russia's memorandum of understanding to implement the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the Convention against Racial Discrimination," the International Court of Justice said in a statement.
Earlier, Elena Zerkal - Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine for European Integration said that Kiev is waiting for the ruling of the International Court of Justice of the United Nations regarding Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia until 2022-2023.
In early November, the International Court of Justice in The Hague considered Russia's objections to Ukraine's claims, including claims of violations of the international convention on the financing of terrorism and the Convention against racial discrimination. Accordingly, Russia expressed hope that the International Court of Justice would take into account Russia's position and not satisfy Kiev's claims.
In January 2017, Ukraine filed a lawsuit against Russia at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Kiev claimed that Moscow had violated the 1999 Convention on the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the 1995 Convention on the Prevention of Racial Discrimination. In the summer of 2019, Russia raised objections at preliminary hearings, arguing that Ukraine’s case did not fall under the Court’s jurisdiction.
Russia believes that Ukraine is not making good faith efforts to resolve conflicts with Russia through peaceful negotiations.
Moscow also believes that Ukraine's position, which attempts to circumvent the preconditions for filing a lawsuit with the Court, could harm the International Convention against Racial Discrimination.
