General Secretary directs clarification of Mobifone's purchase of AVG

Today, July 31, the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption held its 12th meeting under the chairmanship of its Head - General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
At the meeting, the General Secretary requested the Steering Committee to focus on directing, strengthening inspection, auditing, and focusing on areas prone to corruption in the last 6 months of 2017.
The Steering Committee must urgently inspect, clearly conclude right and wrong, determine the correct cause and responsibility, and strictly handle organizations and individuals who have committed violations in 9 projects that caused great losses and losses, and are of public concern.
The two outstanding cases that the General Secretary reminded the Steering Committee about were the project of Mobifone Telecommunications Corporation buying 95% of the shares of Global Audio Visual Joint Stock Company (AVG) and the equitization of Quy Nhon port.
The Steering Committee must also continue to investigate, prosecute, and try prominent cases such as Pham Cong Danh, Ha Van Tham, Vu Quoc Hao, and incidents occurring at the Vietnam Oil and Gas Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVC) and Dong A Commercial Joint Stock Bank.
The Steering Committee must also speed up the verification, investigation and handling of the cases mentioned in the inspection conclusions of the Phu Tho Ethanol Plant construction project and the Dung Quat Ethanol Plant construction project.
In the first 6 months of 2017, the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and judicial agencies completed the first-instance trial of 4 out of 6 cases under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee, with severe sentences, which had a deterrent, educational and general prevention effect, and were approved by public opinion. Specifically, 2 defendants were sentenced to death, 1 defendant to life in prison, and 17 defendants were sentenced to terms ranging from 20 months to 24 years in prison. The Steering Committee has also completed the investigation and additional investigation of 8 cases under the monitoring and direction of the Steering Committee, namely the cases of Pham Cong Danh, Ha Tan Phuoc, Ha Van Tham, Hoang The Trung, Phan Minh Nguyet, Chau Thi Thu Nga, Bui Van Khen, and Huynh Cong Thien. |
