General Secretary and President of China sent a letter of thanks to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping sent a letter of thanks to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for sending condolences upon the passing of Jiang Zemin.

In December 2022, upon hearing the news of the passing of former General Secretary and President of China Jiang Zemin, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and leaders of the Party, State, Government, and National Assembly of Vietnam sent condolences to the Chinese leaders.

Leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs went to the Chinese Embassy to express condolences on the passing of Jiang Zemin.

Recently, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping sent a letter of thanks to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The letter reads:

"Dear Comrade General Secretary!

On behalf of the Party, State and people of China, I sincerely thank you for sending condolences on the passing of Comrade Jiang Zemin, and at the same time convey to you the thanks of Comrade Jiang Zemin's family.

Comrade Jiang Zemin, together with Vietnamese leaders, promoted the normalization of China-Vietnam relations and established the 16-word motto of "good-neighborly friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, and looking toward the future", which has had a profound influence on the development of China-Vietnam relations.

Recently, Comrade General Secretary had a very successful visit to China. Together we discussed major orientations for the development of China-Vietnam relations and reached important common understandings. I attach great importance to the development of China-Vietnam relations and am willing to work with you to promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam in the new era to new heights.
