General Secretary Ha Huy Tap and the Vietnamese revolution

Although his revolutionary activities were not long, Ha Huy Tap lived a vibrant and glorious revolutionary life; devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation; leaving the Party valuable lessons in both theory and practice of revolutionary activities.

General Secretary Ha Huy Tap (1906 - 1941)

At the age of 35, having spent nearly 16 years in revolutionary activities, including nearly 2 years as the Party General Secretary (July 1936 to March 1938) with many different aliases and names, comrade Ha Huy Tap had many policies and decisions, together with the Central Executive Committee, leading our country's revolution to overcome many difficulties and challenges. Comrade Ha Huy Tap devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and our nation, specifically:

Firstly, comrade Ha Huy Tap is a talented revolutionary leader of the Party, constantly taking care of building the Party politically, ideologically and organizationally.

Comrade Ha Huy Tap was the main person who drafted documents and chaired the Party Congress in 1935. At the Party Central Committee Conference in July 1936, Comrade Ha Huy Tap was assigned to return to the country to reorganize the Central Committee and restore the Party organization. Immediately after that, he wisely decided to move the Party headquarters from abroad to Ba Diem commune, Hoc Mon district, Gia Dinh province. This decision was of great significance, creating conditions for ensuring the direct and unified leadership of the Party from the Central to the grassroots, meeting the practical requirements of the revolutionary movement at that time.

Next, at Ba Diem - Hoc Mon - Gia Dinh, he continuously chaired 3 Central Executive Committee Conferences, making many important decisions, namely: 1) Conference in March 1937, unifying Party organizations in Bac Ky and Trung Ky, determining new policies to promote the development of the revolutionary movement; 2) Conference in September 1937 passed a number of important decisions on the establishment of the Indochina Anti-Imperialist People's United Front, developing Party bases in urban areas and plantations, combining public and semi-public forms of struggle... Thanks to that, in just one year, our Party, from being terrorized by the enemy, re-established the Central Executive Committee and the Central Standing Committee; The March 1938 conference analyzed the attitudes of parties and political organizations in Indochina, mass work, organization and leadership of the Party and decided to change the Indochinese Anti-Imperialist People's United Front to the Indochinese Democratic United Front.

Second, comrade Ha Huy Tap was a sharp theorist, a writer who fought on the ideological and political front of the Vietnamese revolution, organizing and directing the publication of books, newspapers, and magazines of the Party.

Through his practice in the vibrant revolutionary movement of the working class and the entire nation, with his sensitive intelligence, political acumen and sharp pen, Comrade Ha Huy Tap demonstrated himself to be a sharp political theorist, holding an important position in journalism and publishing activities. Comrade Ha Huy Tap was the founder and editor-in-chief of many newspapers and mouthpieces of the "Central Party", actively researching the history of the Party. At the age of 23, he completed the book "Draft History of the Indochinese Communist Movement", deeply summarizing the practice of the Vietnamese revolution in the early years under the Party's leadership. In addition, he also wrote about 25 other works.

With a combative pen under many different pen names, comrade Ha Huy Tap wrote many articles in newspapers, resolutely exposing the true face of criticizing the reactionary views of Trotskyite elements; firmly propagating and defending the views of Marxism-Leninism. His works For an Indochinese People's Front, Why We Need Support for the Popular Front in France... are valuable political theoretical works of the Party, contributing to guiding the revolution during the period of mobilizing people's rights. Comrade Ha Huy Tap's thinking and acumen are also reflected in his views on nationality and class, considering this a basic condition leading to all victories of the Vietnamese revolution.

Third, comrade Ha Huy Tap is an example of a heroic, loyal, indomitable, just, selfless communist soldier who sacrificed his whole life for the country and the people.

From a patriotic intellectual, following the revolutionary path and becoming the Party General Secretary at the age of 30, comrade Ha Huy Tap demonstrated his ability to forecast the situation, seize opportunities, take advantage of all favorable conditions, together with the Party's leadership agencies at that time, to make appropriate decisions; at the same time, directly directed the Party's activities, turning opportunities into reality, raising a climax of the struggle for people's livelihood, democracy, peace and against imperialist war in our country in the years 1936-1939.

During his revolutionary activities, he overcame all difficulties and hardships, accepted all challenges, and was ready to sacrifice for the noble communist ideal! for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Facing many prison sentences from the colonialists and imperialists, including the death penalty, he was constantly stalked, surrounded, and controlled both physically and mentally by the enemy, and even imprisoned and brutally tortured, but comrade Ha Huy Tap remained steadfast, indomitable, and maintained his belief and fighting spirit as a communist. Comrade Ha Huy Tap heroically sacrificed himself before the brutal guns of the enemy at the age of 35 with the message: "Please consider me as a living person", demonstrating his strong belief and desire to contribute and fight for the noble ideals of the Party and the nation.

Although the heroic revolutionary life of comrade Ha Huy Tap was short, his contributions to the revolutionary cause of our Party and our people were very important and great. His glorious revolutionary career left us with an extremely valuable lesson about communist ideals, about the spirit of studying, training, and striving constantly, about the will to fight until the last breath for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness and prosperity of the people. The spirit and glorious revolutionary career of comrade Ha Huy Tap will live forever with our Party, Fatherland and people.
