General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong: 'We must fight corruption and deterioration within the Party'

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong requested the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Party Committee to fight corruption, negativity, and deterioration within the Party.

On June 17 and 18, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited and worked in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province on the implementation of economic, social, security, defense development tasks, party building work and the implementation of the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress.

Accompanying the General Secretary were Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh, and leaders of Central Committees, ministries and branches.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited Dat Do district.Learning about the results of new rural construction in Long Tan commune, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was very happy to know that the average income of people in the commune is now 38 million VND/person; the poverty rate is only over 2%.

Working with the Provincial Party Committee and key officials of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Tronghighly appreciated the Party Committee and people of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province for thoroughly grasping the Party's policies; correctly determining the development direction of the province with strengths such as industry, oil and gas, electricity, fertilizer, seaport system and seaport logistics services, tourism, agriculture. Thanks to that, the province has made great contributions to the Central and the region, with budget revenue reaching 120,000 billion VND. The province's average income per capita reached more than 100 million VND/person, more than 2 times higher than the national average.

Most importantly, the province not only creates a favorable investment environment but also resolutely chooses to attract only industrial projects with modern technology, high added value, environmental friendliness, using highly skilled labor, having spillover effects and focusing on developing supporting industries.

Affirming that this is the right direction for Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the General Secretary also warned of a phenomenon in some places where, due to impatience and eagerness to have industrial projects immediately, the locality has not been selective, calculating, and has accepted projects with outdated technology, causing environmental pollution, and low economic efficiency.

Reiterating the need for sustainable development while maintaining rapid growth in the proposed direction, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong suggested that Ba Ria - Vung Tau focus on regional connectivity, strongly developing the marine economy in combination with protecting the independence and sovereignty of the Fatherland.

The General Secretary agreed that it is necessary to invest in Con Dao with specific projects and steps suitable to financial capacity and resources because Con Dao has an important position, an outpost of the Fatherland, combining economy with national defense, tourism, and traditional education.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong requested the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Party Committee to continue to resolutely and persistently build the Party and a clean and strong political system; and fight against corruption, negativity and deterioration within the Party. This is one of the six key tasks outlined in the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress.

On the occasion of his visit to Ba Ria - Vung Tau, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong laid flowers and burned incense in memory of Heroic Martyr Vo Thi Sau, a daughter of Dat Do homeland. Sacrificing herself at a very young age, the image of Vo Thi Sau standing bravely in front of the enemy's guns in the Con Dao poplar forest remains the most beautiful and radiant image of the Vietnamese people's indomitable will to win independence and freedom for the nation. President Ho Chi Minh praised Vo Thi Sau with 6 golden words "Live bravely, die gloriously".

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that “The steadfast, indomitable example and heroic sacrifice of People’s Armed Forces Hero Vo Thi Sau will forever be remembered in our nation’s history of fighting against foreign invaders”. The General Secretary hopes that the cadres and people of Dat Do district will promote the revolutionary and heroic tradition of Vo Thi Sau’s homeland, building the district to become increasingly rich, beautiful, civilized and happy./.
