General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong receives Speaker of the National Assembly of Korea
On the afternoon of January 17, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Kim Jin Pyo, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to visit Vietnam at a time when the two countries have just upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-RoK diplomatic relations.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated the positive development in many aspects of bilateral relations based on a long-standing relationship, sharing many common interests, complementary potential and strengths, and good development achievements over the past 30 years.
In particular, the two countries have a very close people-to-people relationship with over 200,000 people living and working and about 80,000 brides and grooms in each country. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that with that good foundation, the two sides have full potential and room to develop relations in the coming time.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that the two sides should continue to closely coordinate to develop bilateral cooperation more practically and effectively, focusing on promoting high-level visits, meetings and exchanges to enhance mutual understanding, discuss major policies and orientations for developing bilateral relations, and promote cooperation between ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries.
On the parliamentary diplomatic channel, the two sides continued to promote the results of cooperation over the past time, exchanging and sharing experiences in legislative work to facilitate businesses and people of the two countries in the process of living and working in each country.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong acknowledged the opinions of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and believed that the visit to Vietnam by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea is of great significance in promoting the Vietnam-RoK comprehensive strategic partnership.

Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Kim Jin Pyo expressed his pleasure to visit Vietnam at a meaningful time in the bilateral relationship; sincerely thanked General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Vietnamese leaders for taking the time to receive the delegation; and expressed his high agreement with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's opinions on further strengthening the bilateral relationship in the coming time.
The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic development achievements in recent times, especially in the context of COVID-19 prevention and control.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea expressed his delight at the rapid development of bilateral relations, especially the upgrading of the two sides to a comprehensive strategic partnership, saying that the Korea-Vietnam relationship is a typical relationship in international relations.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea hopes that the two sides will continue to promote the achievements in bilateral relations in the fields of politics, economy, culture, people-to-people exchange, defense and security; affirming that the Republic of Korea attaches importance to Vietnam's position in new strategies and initiatives with the region, including the Republic of Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative.
At the end of the meeting, the two leaders expressed their agreement on major directions in promoting bilateral relations. For his part, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea affirmed that in his personal capacity, he will continue to contribute to the strong and effective development of bilateral relations in the next 30 years.
