General Secretary: Handling the East Sea issue in accordance with international law
Receiving Mr. Yang Jiechi, the General Secretary suggested that both sides properly handle the East Sea issue in accordance with international law and the DOC, and soon build a COC.
On the afternoon of June 27, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Mr. Yang Jiechi - Chinese State Councilor, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Mr. Yang Jiechi leading the Chinese delegation to attend the 9th meeting of the Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee in Vietnam.
The General Secretary highly appreciated the positive results achieved at the meeting and suggested that both sides continue to promote the role of the bilateral cooperation steering committee mechanism in fully and effectively implementing the common perception of the high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and two countries, contributing to promoting the traditional friendship and strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China to develop stably and healthily.
The General Secretary expressed his delight at the development trend and positive results in Vietnam-China relations in recent times and affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always attach importance to maintaining friendly neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with China.
The General Secretary suggested that both sides make continuous efforts to strengthen political trust, promote and improve the effectiveness of substantive cooperation in all fields, step up people-to-people exchanges, do a good job of propaganda, properly handle the East Sea issue in accordance with international law and the DOC, promptly build a COC, not complicate the situation, maintain a peaceful, stable, friendly situation and a healthy development trend of bilateral relations.
Mr. Yang Jiechi expressed his pleasure to visit Vietnam again; warmly congratulated the success of the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam; and respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Mr. Yang Jiechi also reported to the General Secretary the results achieved at the 9th Session of the Steering Committee for Vietnam - China Bilateral Cooperation.
Regarding the relationship between the two Parties and countries, Mr. Yang Jiechi affirmed that the Party and State of China highly value the friendly neighborly relationship and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam; wish to increase high-level exchanges, experience sharing, and promote cooperation in the fields of economy, defense, security, diplomacy, culture, science and technology, and people-to-people exchange between the two countries.
Mr. Yang Jiechi expressed his determination to work with the Vietnamese side to effectively implement the agreements reached between the high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and two countries, contributing to the continuous and sustainable development of the Vietnam-China friendship and cooperation./.
