Consulate General shot, China asks US to investigate
Beijing called on Washington to ensure the safety of Chinese delegations and officials in the US, following the shooting at the consulate general.
"China is paying close attention to this incident. We officially request the US to investigate the incident as soon as possible and take effective measures to protect the staff of the Chinese embassy and consulate in the US," Xinhua quoted.Geng Shuang, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said today.
Mr. Canh spoke about the shooting incident early on August 1. A Chinese man in his 60s committed suicide after opening fire at the Chinese consulate general in Los Angeles, California.
The man fired 18 shots outside the building but no one was injured. The motive is unknown and an investigation is ongoing.
