The partial US government shutdown, over President Trump's demand for funding to build a wall on the border with Mexico, has entered its 14th day.
Mr Schumer said Democratic leaders told President Trump that the government needed to be reopened, but Mr Trump refused. Meanwhile, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called it a "long and sometimes acrimonious meeting." Ms Pelosi said: "We can't solve this until we reopen the government."
President Trump convened a second meeting between Democratic and Republican leaders this week.
He is still determined to demand the $5 billion budget to build the aforementioned border wall, but the legal process for this has not received support from the US Congress./.
