AFP reported that Iranian President HassanRouhani arrived in the United States on September 23 to attend the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), but the leader of this Middle Eastern country will not be allowed to move freely during his stay in New York City.

Under the restrictions, Mr. Rouhani cannot travel far from the United Nations headquarters, located in the East River on the east side of Manhattan Island. However, the U.S. government has granted special permission for the Iranian president to stay at a hotel.

Foreign officials are allowed to leave the General Assembly for short periods to shop or walk in Central Park, but these rules did not apply to Mr. Rouhani.

The Iranian leader is confined to an area bounded by First Avenue, where the United Nations headquarters is located, and East 42nd Street to the south, and East 48th Street to the north.

Mr. Rouhani had to travel between JKF Airport and the United Nations via an underground tunnel connecting Queens and Manhattan because restrictions did not allow the Iranian President to travel on any bridges in New York.

Mr. Rouhani was also allowed to go to the Iranian Ambassador's residence on Fifth Avenue under the exemption regulations for officials of the Iranian delegation./.
