US President Biden calls for not disrupting the negotiation process in Gaza

According to President Biden, the new proposal put forward by US negotiators under his direction to resolve the situation in the Palestinian lands “lays the foundation for reaching an agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages in the coming days”.

President Biden stressed that US negotiators “will remain in the region to continue technical work in the coming days” and “senior officials will meet again in Cairo before the end of next week”.

“To reaffirm my unwavering commitment to Israel’s security, I am directing Secretary of State Antony Blinken to continue our vigorous efforts to reach an agreement and to emphasize that, with the prospect of a comprehensive ceasefire and the release of hostages, no one in the region will disrupt this process,” President Biden said.

On August 15, a new round of negotiations began in Doha (Qatar) aimed at reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a hostage exchange. A joint statement by Egypt, Qatar and the United States stressed that the negotiations took place “in a positive atmosphere”. During the consultations, the United States, with the support of Qatar and Egypt, put forward a proposal to ease the disagreement between Hamas and Israel.

The parties agreed to hold the next round of talks in Cairo before the end of next week. According to the rules, technical teams will continue to develop mechanisms in the coming days to implement the main points of the agreement, including those related to the exchange of hostages held in the Gaza Strip for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, as well as the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the surrounding areas.
