During the meeting, President Putin expressed his desire to hold new talks with his US counterpart Donald Trump, possibly in Paris (France) next month. Both leaders are expected to attend an event in Paris on November 11 to mark the end of World War I. President Putin suggested that the two Russian and US leaders could meet on the sidelines of this event.
For his part, Mr. Bolton also expressed his belief that President Donald Trump looks forward to this meeting with President Putin in Paris.
In addition, President Putin also said that Russia is sometimes "surprised" by what he called "unprovoked" actions that Washington takes against Moscow. The above statement was made by President Putin in the context that on October 21, US President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, accusing Russia of violating the terms of this agreement.
However, Russia asserts that it strictly complies with the INF, while the US always violates this agreement.
The INF Treaty was signed by the leaders of the former US and Soviet Union on December 8, 1987, according to which, both sides pledged not to produce, test, or deploy medium- and short-range ballistic and cruise missiles (from 500 km to 5,500 km).
