Russian President Putin welcomes US cooperation

President Putin welcomed Mr. Kerry's visit and said that contacts between Russia and the United States provide an opportunity to resolve important issues.
The Russian leader said that Moscow and Washington are finding common ground to promote the resolution of bilateral and international issues.
President Putin stressed that the Russian side welcomes Mr. Kerry's visits because such contacts create opportunities to resolve many important issues.
For his part, Secretary of State John Kerry expressed his thanks for President Putin's time for the meeting.
Mr. Kerry assessed that the cooperation between Russia and the US on the Syrian issue has brought about serious results and improved the situation of the people of this Middle Eastern country.
Secretary of State Kerry also, on behalf of President Barack Obama and the American people, sent condolences on the plane crash in the Russian city of Rostov on the banks of the Don River, and said that the US is ready to assist Russia in investigating the cause of the accident.
Earlier, US Secretary of State John Kerry held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
The two foreign ministers agreed that the two countries have made progress in resolving the Syrian crisis, notably by establishing a temporary ceasefire agreement.
At this meeting, the US Secretary of State affirmed that despite disagreements on many issues, major powers like Russia and the US can still cooperate to deal with common challenges./.
