President Putin warns of appropriate response to Ukraine's nuclear move
President Putin said any steps by Ukraine on nuclear weapons would receive an appropriate response.
According to RIA Novosti, at a meeting with heads of leading media agencies from BRICS member states on October 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that any step in Ukraine's creation of nuclear weapons would be met with an appropriate response.
“It is not difficult to create nuclear weapons in the modern world. I do not know whether Ukraine is capable of doing this today. In the current situation in Ukraine, creating nuclear weapons is not so simple. But in general, there are no major difficulties here. This is a dangerous provocation. Of course, any steps in this direction will be met with an appropriate response,” President Putin said at the meeting.
The Russian president also added that Ukraine's political leadership has repeatedly spoken out about nuclear weapons.
“Even before the crisis turned into a hot phase, they made such statements, but relatively mildly. They said that Ukraine should have nuclear weapons,” Putin added, stressing once again that such a threat would provoke an appropriate response from Russia.
President Putin affirmed: “I can say right away that Russia will not allow this under any circumstances.”
Regarding the war, President Putin said that its completion depends on the Ukrainian side. Of course, the issue needs to be resolved at the negotiating table.
“The Ukrainian army cannot withstand this battle of wits, nor can it use high-precision weapons, because Kiev simply does not have them. NATO today is fighting with the hands of the Ukrainian people, while not sparing the Russian people,” Putin noted.
Regarding the negotiation agreement with Ukraine, President Putin said that Russia is ready to negotiate with Kiev, if the preliminary agreement document in the spring of 2022 is used as a basis. The place of discussion this time could be Saudi Arabia, a comfortable place for negotiations.
