During a sideline conversation with participants of the Ceremony of awarding Gold Star medals to Heroes of Russia, Lieutenant Colonel Artem Zhoga - Commander of the Sparta Battalion, Heroes of Donetsk asked questions and requested President Putin to run for a new term.

“We are glad that the president listened to our nomination request. All of Russia supports him,” said Lieutenant Colonel Zhoga, adding that everyone on the front was worried and wondering whether President Putin would run for office.

Hero Zhoga said that the Russian leader did not hesitate to answer the question. “Our president made decisions without hesitation. He is always confident in his actions, decisions and words,” Hero Donetsk stressed.

Talking about his decision to run for election, President Putin said that currently "there is no other way".

“At different times, there were different thoughts. But I understand that today it is impossible to do otherwise. Therefore, I will run for election,” President Putin said, and thanked all those who have always supported and nominated him.

Donetsk People's Republic leader Puslin affirmed: "For Donbass, President Putin is the only leader who brought us back to the Motherland; who saved Donbass from destruction."

Commenting on President Putin's decision to run for a new term, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that President Putin's decision was "absolutely logical and correct". His presidential work must continue.

On December 8, the Russian Federation Council scheduled the election of a new president for March 17, 2024.

According to the statement of the head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, the election will last 3 days, from March 15-17, 2024. This has become a tradition for the electoral system in Russia.

Early voting in the Russian Federation will take place from February 25 to March 14 in hard-to-reach and remote regions. Russian citizens abroad will vote early from March 1.
