Yesterday, November 9, Russian Presidential Advisor Yuri Ushakov confirmed a number of Putin's bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Da Nang. Specifically, Putin will have bilateral meetings with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The much-anticipated meeting with US President Donald Trump was also confirmed today (November 10) in Da Nang.

Previously, on November 6, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov revealed that President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will discuss three topics during their meeting on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Vietnam, including the fight against international terrorism, Syria and North Korea.

"How to prevent events like what we saw in New York from happening again. How to make it possible for people in Syria to start living in peace. When to start the political process, how to speed it up..." - RIA Novosti news agency quoted Mr. Antonov.

President Putin hopes for trade cooperation

Before coming to Vietnam to attend the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Da Nang, President Putin posted an article on the Kremlin's official website expressing Russia's support for the idea of forming a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP).

Russia sees in this practical benefits and opportunities to strengthen its position in dynamically developing markets in the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Putin stressed that over the past five years, the share of APEC economies in Russia's foreign trade increased from 23% to 31%, while exports increased from 17% to 24%. And Russia has no intention of stopping at the level it has achieved.

The Russian President also stated that the project to establish a large-scale free trade area such as FTAAP needs to be implemented on the basis of drawing lessons and experiences from existing Asia-Pacific and Eurasia regional integration frameworks, including the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in which Russia cooperates with Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

The alliance is developing dynamically and Russia is ready to build relations with all interested countries and alliances.

President Putin added that Vietnam, the host country of APEC 2017, has become the first country to sign a free trade agreement with the EAEU. As a result, bilateral trade turnover has increased significantly.
