President Putin calls for stepping up development of defense systems
(Baonghean.vn) - On May 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his country needs to develop defense systems to counter hypersonic weapons, before other countries develop this type of weapon.

Speaking at a government meeting discussing the development of Russia's defense sector, President Putin said: "We understand that so far no country other than Russia has such weapons. However, we also understand that the world's leading countries will develop such weapons sooner or later. It would be better for us if they do this late. And what does "late" mean? It means that we must develop ways to protect ourselves from such weapons, before hypersonic weapons are put on combat duty in the army, which I have mentioned before."
According to the Russian leader, analysis of modern armed conflicts shows that the development of state-of-the-art missile defense systems is among the top priorities of the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces.
"We need to continue equipping the Aerospace Forces with the most advanced missile defense systems, including the S-400 long-range system and short-range systems," Mr. Putin emphasized.
"One of the key tasks is to strengthen control over space," President Putin said, recalling the Konteyner space-based radar system that joined the mission last December. The Konteyner radar system provides long-range space surveillance over much of Western Europe and the Middle East.
