President Putin says Western sanctions 'backfire'
Western efforts to isolate and sanction Russia have backfired and hurt the very people who created them, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on June 9.
Speaking to a group of young businessmen in Moscow, Russian President Putin pointed out the economic consequences of anti-Russian sanctions for the very countries that imposed them.

“They limit Russian fertilizer exports, but their prices are much higher than in Russia. They try to limit our energy exports, their prices are also rising. They even try to blame me for inflation, but the fact is that we have absolutely nothing to do with it!” Putin stressed.
“This is the result of mistakes they themselves made and now they are trying to cover up some point by blaming everything on Russia,” the Russian leader added.
Mr Putin has repeatedly said that Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine has nothing to do with the West’s economic disaster. It is the sanctions against Russia imposed by the US and its allies that have disrupted supplies of oil, gas, fertilizer and even grain to the West. Record inflation in the US and the EU is due to their policies, not a consequence of the conflict in Ukraine.
Regarding the departure of many Western companies from Russia, Mr. Putin said that missing out on the huge potential in Russia is their loss.
