(Baonghean.vn) - According to TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 11 that he considers the development of the Arctic region an undeniable priority, because this is an area of special importance to Russia's defense, logistics and energy.

“The Arctic region is of special strategic importance for us. This is a region with huge economic opportunities,” the head of state said at a meeting on the development of Russia’s Arctic settlements.
“We primarily link the strengthening of the country's energy potential, the expansion of logistics capabilities, ensuring security and defense with this region, and therefore the further comprehensive development of these territories is an indisputable priority for us,” Putin stressed.
Also at the meeting, the Russian President suggested focusing on issues such as “the quality of life of citizens, the modern outlook and the future of northern cities and towns – both those founded in the 20th century and those with centuries-old histories.”
“Of course, all of this is a symbol, an embodiment of a great will, a great role, one might say audacity, work, courage of many generations of our ancestors and contemporaries who have also developed the North,” Putin said. The leader drew attention to the fact that “today millions of people live in this region, work, have families, raise children and make a huge contribution to the development of the entire country.”
