Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that Arctic countries ask NATO why they rejected the Russian Federation's offer to fly only with active transponders.

"The President of Finland, as a representative of a neutral country, some time ago proposed to let military aircraft fly with active transponders. That is, with aircraft identification tools. We agreed and made this proposal within the framework of our relations with NATO. The answer from NATO was no," Putin said at the plenary session of the Fifth International Arctic Forum.

"Well then, ask NATO why they don't agree," - the Russian President suggested.

Vladimir Putin stressed that "Russian aviation activity in the Baltic Sea region in the Arctic is an order of magnitude lower than that of NATO countries." "It is necessary to know about that," the Russian president added.
