President Trump announces plan to reduce tariffs on Chinese goods
President Trump said US tariffs on Chinese goods will be reduced, but not eliminated.

According to RIA Novosti on April 23, US President Donald Trump announced a plan to reduce tariffs on goods from China, but has not yet envisioned a zero tax rate.
"That's right. 145% is a very high number. And it's not going to stay that high. It's going to come down significantly, but it's not going to go down to zero," President Trump said at a White House press conference on April 22 (Washington time).
President Donald Trump also noted that he has a "great relationship" with Chinese President Xi Jinping. On this issue, he expressed hope to reach a deal with China, however, even if the deal fails, the tariff issue will still be resolved.
There is currently an ongoing trade war between China and the United States, which began in February 2025 when President Donald Trump imposed a 10% tariff on all imports from China. In March, that tariff was increased to 20%, prompting China to retaliate by imposing tariffs on agricultural products imported from the United States.
A new round of escalation has occurred after the US imposed “reciprocal” tariffs on imports from other countries, leading to a 54% increase in tariffs on China. Currently, US tariffs on Chinese goods have reached 145% and on US suppliers to China are 125%.
