President Trump calls for 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine
President Trump said talks with Russia and Ukraine were continuing, and called for a ceasefire.

According to RIA Novosti, US President Donald Trump has called for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, saying it could be achieved very quickly, while threatening to impose sanctions to control compliance with the agreement.
"Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine continue. The United States calls for a 30-day ceasefire with no preconditions" – President Trump posted on Truth Social on May 8.
Mr Trump expressed hope for an acceptable ceasefire that would be monitored and that both sides would be responsible for direct negotiations.
"If the ceasefire is violated, the United States and our partners will impose additional sanctions," President Trump added.
The US leader said he remained committed to achieving lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine alongside Europe.
"A ceasefire must lead to a peace agreement. This can be done very quickly. And I will be there immediately if my help is needed" - the US leader emphasized.
Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, said that President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with White House special envoy Steve Witkoff, confirmed his readiness to negotiate with Ukraine without preconditions.
At the same time, as the Kremlin representative noted, the signal of readiness for this should come from Kiev, but so far Moscow has not seen any action from Kiev. Therefore, the Ukrainian authorities must lift the ban on contacts with Russia.
Moscow has repeatedly pointed out that the Kiev authorities are unable to reach an agreement. The official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stressed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky broke the meeting on the Ukraine issue in London, the Easter ceasefire and the moratorium on attacks on energy facilities.
