Ukraine's ceasefire is a first step towards talks with Russia
Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations expects Ukraine to join Russia in implementing a ceasefire on Victory Day.

According to RIA Novosti on April 30, Russian Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzya said at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council that if Ukraine agrees to support the ceasefire proposed by Moscow on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, this could become the opening step for peace negotiations between the two countries.
"We hope that the Ukrainian side will follow our example and join the ceasefire in May. Such a step could become a prelude to direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine without any preconditions," Nebenzya said.

The Russian diplomat also expressed “deep gratitude” to the North Korean “brothers and comrades” for helping to liberate the Kursk region from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The diplomat said that the participation of the North Korean military in this operation was in full compliance with international law.
Earlier, on April 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire during the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. This order is effective from 0:00 on May 8 to 0:00 on May 11. During this time, all military activities will stop. In response to Moscow's proposal, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the ceasefire must be implemented immediately, unconditionally and for at least 30 days.
