President Trump does not rule out sending troops to Greenland
President Trump said he could send US troops to Greenland, because Washington needs the island.

According to RIA Novosti, in an interview with NBC News on May 4, US President Donald Trump said that in certain cases he could send the US military to control Greenland.
"It could happen. I'm not ruling it out, I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but I'm not ruling anything out," President Trump said in response to a question on the matter.
The US leader once again stressed that the US "very much" needs Greenland because it is necessary to ensure international security.
Even before taking office, Donald Trump repeatedly stated that the island should become part of the United States. Trump stressed that these territories are of strategic importance to national security and the protection of the “free world.” The head of the White House refused to commit that he would not use force to establish control over the island.
In mid-March, parliamentary elections were held in Greenland, after which the new representatives could decide whether to hold a referendum on full independence from Denmark. On the other hand, neither the local political parties nor the majority of the population supported joining the United States.
The island's new prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has declared that the US will not be able to take over the territory and that it will be up to the Greenlanders to decide their future.
