During the phone call, both leaders condemned North Korea’s “continued destabilizing and provocative behavior.” The US president reassured Mr. Abe that the US was ready to use weapons, including nuclear weapons, against North Korea if necessary.
Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stressed: "North Korea's nuclear test is unacceptable. We need to strongly condemn it so that North Korea cannot repeat this action."
Japan's Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasutoshi Nishimura said the country is considering imposing additional sanctions on North Korea, including possibly stopping its oil trade.
Earlier, President Trump called North Korea’s H-bomb test “an extremely dangerous and hostile act.” Trump also strongly criticized ally South Korea for mentioning dialogue with South Korea. According to the US President: “North Korea will only understand when threatened with a military attack.”
The US President also said he was considering “stopping trade with any country doing business with North Korea,” including China, although Mr. Trump admitted that China had taken action on the North Korea issue but “the results were not as expected.”
In response to Mr Trump's threat, North Korea issued a statement warning that "US imperialists" would not be able to avoid "the greatest disaster ever" if North Korea felt provoked.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) stressed: “If the US imperialists dare to provoke the DPRK, they will not be able to escape the greatest disaster ever. Do not forget that the DPRK has enough modern weapons to attack the US.”
