President Vladimir Putin: Operation in Ukraine is going according to plan
President Vladimir Putin has given a positive assessment of the battlefield developments in Russia's military campaign in Ukraine. The comments came days after Russian forces took full control of the strategic town of Soledar in Donbass.
“The dynamics are very positive. Everything is going according to the plans of the Defense Ministry and the Joint Chiefs of Staff,” Putin said in an interview with the Rossiya 1 news channel broadcast on January 15.

He also expressed hope that “the soldiers will satisfy us even more with their results.”
Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on January 13 that the Russian military liberated Soledar on the evening of January 12. He said that full control of Soledar could cut off supply routes to Ukrainian forces in the southwestern city of Bakhmut, and then encircle Ukrainian forces in the city.
The two sides have been fighting fiercely near Bakhmut in recent months. The city is an important logistics hub for the Ukrainian army in Donbass, while for Russia, its capture would open a route to other key Ukrainian-controlled towns./.
