President Zelensky sets 3 conditions for Ukraine to hold elections
(Baonghean.vn) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that holding elections during the period of martial law in the country is prohibited. However, the Ukrainian leader stated 3 conditions for holding elections.

“According to the law prohibiting the holding of elections, it is very difficult to hold them at the moment. My answer is simple: if our parliamentarians are ready to change the election law, because during martial law there can be no elections. At the same time, the United States and Europe provide financial support. I will not hold elections on credit, and I will not take money from weapons. Another condition is that international observers will sit in the trenches,” President Zelensky said on Ukrainian national television.
President Zelensky also declared that Ukraine is ready to fight for a long time, if casualties are minimized and no soldiers are lost.
The Vekhovna Rada has extended martial law until November 15, 2023. The Vekhovna Rada said that elections were supposed to be held at the end of October, but due to martial law, the elections will not be held.
Earlier, in late June 2023, the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, said that if elections were held during martial law, it could lead to “the disintegration of the state, which is what our opponents are looking for. That is why the most correct and wise decision is to hold elections immediately after the end of martial law.”
President Volodymyr Zelensky's five-year term ends in 2024.
