NATO Secretary General calls for rapid supply of weapons to Ukraine
(Baonghean.vn) - During the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Ukraine urgently needs additional air defense equipment and maintenance equipment, and called on Western countries to spend money to buy air defense systems for Kiev.

“Ukraine needs support in many different ways. There is an urgent need for air defense, not only new systems but also ammunition, maintenance and spare parts. We see air defense systems operating in Ukraine every day and we need to support the air defense systems of this country,” Stoltenberg said. US F-16 fighter jets will also help Kiev with air defense, but it is not yet clear when Ukraine will receive them.
In another related development, Bloomberg news agency quoted a senior European Union (EU) official as saying that G7 countries believe the conflict in Ukraine will last another 6 or 7 years, in the context of the US and its allies planning to provide financial and military support to Ukraine.
Bloomberg quoted an official from one of the G7 countries in Europe as saying: “The conflict could last another six or seven years. The allies need to make financial plans to continue supporting Kiev in such a long conflict.” This assessment was supported by US President Joe Biden in his speech at the UN General Assembly calling on world leaders to support Ukraine.
The prospects of the conflict were also discussed on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory a condition for starting negotiations.
Sharing the same view, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine could continue for a long time. He argued that Moscow is indeed among the parties seeking to end hostilities as soon as possible. President Erdogan expressed doubts about the possibility of Russia "withdrawing" from Crimea./.
