Mr. Le Van Cu, Phong Yen hamlet said, his family has a shrimp pond with an area of 5000 m2, each crop after deducting expenses also makes a profit of 500 to 700 million VND. However, this year, right from the first shrimp crop, 150,000 shrimps were released just over 10 days ago and died floating in the pond. Just counting the cost of the seeds, the family has already lost nearly 40 million VND.
Not only Mr. Cu's family, Mr. Tran Cong Hung's family is also preparing to drain the water to dry the pond, after losing the first batch of shrimp. Mr. Hung said, with more than 6000m2In the pond area, he released 100,000 shrimp fry, but by this time, all the shrimp had died. Mr. Hung shared: “Although I have invested and taken very good care of this batch of shrimp, the results are not very promising. Up to now, all the 100,000 shrimp fry I just released have died. Not only my family, but out of 17 households whose shrimp died, 8 have lost everything, left with nothing.”
According to research, the mass shrimp deaths occurred mainly in Hung Hoa 2 Agricultural Cooperative, including 3 hamlets Phong Yen, Phong Hao, Phong Thuan. This year's shrimp farming season started in April, but after only 10 days, 17 shrimp farming households had shrimp deaths, of which 8 households lost everything.

The shrimp breed raised in Hung Hoa is mainly white-leg shrimp supplied by Viet Uc, An Phu Hung, Tuan Phat… companies. The mass death of shrimp has made many people worried and hesitant in the following seasons.
Mr. Le Van Cu commented: “At first, the shrimp developed normally, but on the 10th day, the shrimp showed signs of death, and in the following days, the pond was completely dead. It is possible that the outbreak was due to changes in the weather, affecting the shrimp's living environment.”
Mr. Dinh Van Thang, Chairman of Hung Hoa 2 Agricultural Cooperative, said: "The mass death of shrimp has been reported by the people. The commune is currently conducting a damage inventory to wait for the direction of the superiors. In previous years, there were still epidemics but less, this year it could be because the whiteleg shrimp were released at a density of 60 shrimp/m2(doubled from last year) with water level around 1.5 m so it is more difficult to raise".
