Prison No. 6 was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
(Baonghean.vn) - To show gratitude to the officers, soldiers and local authorities, Prison No. 6 held a celebration ceremony nearly 2 months after being awarded this title by the President.
On the morning of March 22, Prison No. 6 held a ceremony to celebrate the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces during the resistance war against the US to save the country.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Ngoc Bang - Director General of the General Department of Criminal Judgment Enforcement and Judicial Support (Ministry of Public Security), attended and congratulated the celebration.
On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee; comrade Vo Viet Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Secretary of Vinh City Party Committee; Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duc Hai - Deputy Director of Nghe An Police; leaders of relevant departments, branches and local authorities.

According to Major Tran Ba Toan - Warden of Prison No. 6, on January 26, President Tran Dai Quang signed a decision to confer the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces on the unit for its outstanding achievements in the resistance war against the US to save the country. On January 31, representatives of the unit's leaders, commanders and officers and soldiers were also honored to receive the Decision on this honorable title from Senior Lieutenant General To Lam - Minister of Public Security at the hall of the Ministry of Public Security.

With the approval of the leadership, the unit organized a celebration to once again pay tribute to the officers and soldiers of the unit who heroically sacrificed on this land, fighting for the peace and independence of the country today.

Prison No. 6 was established on December 16, 1946, located in Hanh Lam commune, Thanh Chuong district. In 1952, the unit was merged with Hoa Quan Camp (under the Inter-zone 4 Police) and renamed Re-education Camp No. 6. From 1958 to present, the unit has undergone 6 management level changes: From Inter-zone 4 to the Ministry of Public Security; from the Ministry of Public Security to the Nghe Tinh Provincial Police and vice versa. From July 1, 1996 to present, the Camp is under the V26 Department, now the General Department of Criminal Enforcement and Judicial Support, managed by the Ministry of Public Security and renamed Prison No. 6.
The warden of Prison No. 6 said that, over the past 72 years, the unit has always excellently completed its assigned political tasks, ensuring absolute safety of the detention facility, preventing sudden and complicated incidents; focusing on directing the basic professional work; proactively detecting, preventing and promptly handling violations of internal regulations, preventing incidents of disturbing order and demanding demands. In addition, the unit has always paid attention to and properly implemented the regime and policies for prisoners. Therefore, the majority of prisoners are assured of reform and strictly comply with prison regulations.

Currently, the unit has more than 660 officers and soldiers managing and detaining nearly 4,000 prisoners. These prisoners are detained in 4 sub-camps with an area of over 600 hectares, located in Thanh Chuong and Nam Dan districts of Nghe An province.
According to Major Toan, with the outstanding achievements in recent years, the Party and State have awarded Prison Camp No. 6 many Medals and Medals of various types; Central and local departments and branches have awarded Emulation Flags, Certificates of Merit, and Certificates of Merit to many collectives and individuals in the unit.
