(Baonghean.vn)- The new rural construction movement has been making inter-village and inter-commune roads concreted cleanly and spaciously. However, after building the roads, many localities have built concrete pillars at the village entrances to prevent trucks, causing much controversy.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phien in Hamlet 5, Lang Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh still remembers clearly the accident 6 months ago on the village road. That day, Mr. Phien was riding his electric bike on his way home from work. Due to carelessness when turning onto the village road to go home, the wheel hit one of the two concrete pillars that the local government had poured on the road. As a result, Mr. Phien suffered serious facial injuries and had to be treated for many days at the provincial hospital. His electric bike was also damaged.

Not only Mr. Phien but also many other people in Yen Thanh district feel inconvenienced by the concrete pillars that have sprung up during the process of building new rural areas because not only do they cause traffic accidents, these concrete pillars also prevent ambulances, fire trucks and other vehicles carrying agricultural products from entering the village. Many car collisions with concrete pillars have occurred.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Vinh, Loc Thanh hamlet, Nam Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) said: NTM is to make the road wider, more solid, creating conditions for vehicles to enter and exit the village. Therefore, it is unreasonable for localities to pour concrete pillars at the beginning of the village road to prevent cars from entering the village. Nowadays, children go to work far away, can buy cars, on holidays, many cars return to their hometowns, so that concrete pillar is an obstacle, very easy to scratch the car for new drivers; or sometimes cause accidents for people participating in traffic by motorbike or bicycle.

It is known that due to the above shortcomings, recently Lang Thanh commune has directed hamlets to remove all concrete pillars at the beginning of village roads, creating convenience for all types of vehicles to enter and exit the village.

However, there are also opinions that people contribute money to build concrete roads, so pouring concrete pillars at the beginning of the village road is necessary to limit cars from entering the village road and damaging the road.

For that reason, although not common, there are still many localities where concrete pillars exist right at the entrance of the village. This causes difficulties for traffic participants, creating an unsightly image, especially for visitors from afar when returning to the village. Some people think that this is the narrow-mindedness of a part of the people, so they pour such concrete pillars.

Mr. Hoang Van Ha - Chairman of Nam Thanh Commune People's Committee (Yen Thanh) said: Previously, the local thinking was not to allow large trucks to enter the village roads, damaging the roads, so the hamlets poured 2 concrete pillars at the village entrance, wide enough for cars or small trucks to enter. However, after a period of monitoring, it was shown that most people did not agree, there were cases of cars colliding with the concrete pillars, causing damage. Therefore, 2 years ago, the commune directed the hamlets to remove all the concrete pillars, replacing them with traffic signs, creating a beautiful landscape, showing civilization.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hang - Deputy Chief of the Office of the National Target Program for New Rural Construction in the province said: The movement to build new rural areas has created spacious, spacious and solid concrete roads, creating favorable conditions for vehicles to enter and exit. Therefore, it is unreasonable for localities to pour two large concrete pillars at the entrance of the village to prevent trucks from entering the village, which could cause traffic accidents.

Therefore, the Provincial Office of the National Target Program for New Rural Development has proposed that localities remove those concrete pillars and replace them with traffic signs about the road's load capacity. Doing so will both protect the quality of the road to serve the travel needs of the people and create a cultural feature of the countryside.
