Children drowned while practicing swimming in a brass basin on Hoang Mai River

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of June 11, Mr. Vu Le Hung - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Vinh commune, Hoang Mai town, said that a tragic drowning incident had just occurred in the area.

“On the morning of June 11, Nguyen Van Quynh (10 years old), a 4th grader in hamlet 4, Quynh Vinh commune, and a group of friends brought a basin to the Hoang Mai river to cool off.

At around 9:30 a.m. the same day, two friends who knew how to swim swam across the Hoang Mai River. Quynh used a basin instead of a buoy to practice swimming and cross the river. However, when Quynh swam to the middle of the river, the basin flipped over due to the strong current, causing her to drown.

At that time, people living about 100 meters away, discovered Quynh struggling in the middle of the river and rushed to save her, but because the river was deep and the water was flowing fast, they were unable to save her in time. Quynh's body was found shortly after.

It is known that Quynh is the second child in a family of three siblings.

On the afternoon of June 11, leaders of Quynh Vinh Commune People's Committee, teachers and students visited, encouraged and supported Quynh's family.
