Prospects from new OCOP products in Tan Ky district

Many new products are "starred"

This year, Tan Ky district received a lot of good news with 8 products achieving “3 stars” OCOP at the provincial level. In addition to the agricultural products produced traditionally by the locality, there are also some new products “found” in the district, opening up many prospects for development in this hilly land.

The new product we would like to mention first is the Western Nghe An yellow banana (South American banana variety) grown by My Thanh Clean Banana Cooperative in Dong Van commune.

It can be said that anyone who comes to the South American banana growing model of My Thanh Clean Banana Cooperative must be amazed by the hills covered with dark green banana leaves, almost 100% of the mature banana trees have produced bunches. Although planted on hilly land, the banana trees grow well because there is a sprinkler irrigation system covering the entire area. Members of the Cooperative said that planted since the beginning of 2021, after 10 months of care according to safe procedures, up to now, 26 hectares of South American banana varieties by 11 members of the Cooperative who are local people have confirmed their success on this hilly land.

Recently, the Golden Banana product of Nghe An has achieved “3 stars” OCOP at the provincial level, which is a favorable condition for the product to be sold in supermarkets, especially exported abroad. From the success of this model, the South American banana variety will soon expand its area to other localities in Tan Ky district.

An agricultural product that has been of interest to Tan Ky district for many years is the white oyster mushroom of An Ha Biological Joint Stock Company in Ky Son commune. With a production scale of over 6,000 m2, well-invested, creating regular jobs for 8 local workers, supplying the market with about 20 tons of white oyster mushrooms each year. The white oyster mushroom products here are produced according to clean, safe processes, and have been trusted by consumers for many years.

Ms. Vu Thi Linh - Director of An Ha Biological Joint Stock Company said that the white oyster mushroom product of the unit has achieved "3 stars" OCOP at the provincial level, which is the motivation for the unit to continue improving product quality, aiming to achieve "4 stars" OCOP in the coming years. This is also the trust for customers every time they use the unit's white oyster mushroom product.

Tan Ky district is a locality with great potential for developing citrus trees, including grapefruit products. In recent years, some localities have introduced green-skin grapefruit varieties for planting with high productivity and good quality. Therefore, the green-skin grapefruit products grown in Tan An commune have just achieved “3 stars” OCOP, confirming that.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Director of An Ngai One Member Co., Ltd., 6 years ago, the unit supplied seedlings to the An Ngai grapefruit cooperative to grow on an area of ​​9.6 hectares of 11 participating households. Up to now, An Ngai green-skinned grapefruit products have affirmed their design and quality, and are sold at high prices on the market.

In 2021, in addition to the 3 products of yellow banana, white oyster mushroom, green-skinned grapefruit, Tan Ky district also has 5 typical products achieving "3 stars" OCOP at the provincial level: Vuc Rong grapefruit - Tan Long commune; Hoa Hao peanut oil - Nghia Hoan commune; Polygonum multiflorum honey pills and Polygonum multiflorum turmeric starch pills - Thien An Cooperative, Nghia Hop commune. Thus, from 2019 to present, Tan Ky district has had 14 products achieving "3 stars" OCOP at the provincial level. Through the review of the district's Department of Agriculture, it shows that Tan Ky still has many traditional products that can participate in the "star" scoring in the coming years.

Aiming for "star" upgrade

Mr. Nguyen Cong Trung - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Ky district said: To achieve results in implementing OCOP products, every year, the district strengthens the Steering Committee for implementing the "One Commune One Product" Program, in order to promote its role in directing, inspecting and evaluating products with local strengths. Promote extensive propaganda about the program's content, thereby helping people of all walks of life and subjects who want to participate in the program understand OCOP, the benefits and necessary conditions when participating in the program.

The “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program has brought people, especially those whose products are strengths of the locality or region, to promote their advantages, bring their brands and strengths to the locality or region; help businesses inside and outside the province consume and promote local products in order to bring local product brands to consumers widely.

“After achieving “3 stars” of OCOP at the provincial level, it does not mean satisfaction, so another important issue is that the subjects and production organizations focus on upgrading the star rating of the products. Therefore, among the 14 products that have achieved “3 stars” of OCOP, Tan Ky district is orienting some products with great potential and local characteristics to upgrade the star rating, typically: Peanut oil, Western Nghe An golden bananas and local molasses products”

Currently, the Department of Agriculture is advising the District People's Committee to promptly send documents to communes to review and register products for 2022. In particular, attention is paid to local specialty products that meet the requirements in terms of scale and quality: Tan Long peanut oil; Nghia Thai rice vermicelli; dried bamboo shoots, Giai Xuan hammocks; honey in communes...

After 3 years of implementation in Tan Ky, the program has achieved many positive results, especially in terms of awareness of Party committees, authorities at all levels, enterprises and cooperatives about the position of the "One Commune One Product" Program in rural economic development. Through participation in the program, production entities have completed products to meet market requirements, contributing to economic restructuring, increasing income and effectively implementing the criteria group "Economy and production organization" in the National Criteria for New Rural Communes in Tan Ky district.
