Two days after the United Nations imposed new sanctions,North Korea threatens to retaliate against the US 'many times over'.

In a statement published by KCNA on August 7, Pyongyang accused the sanctions of being caused by "an extremely vicious plot by the US to isolate and suffocate" North Korea.

"We will not put our self-defensive nuclear deterrent on the negotiating table" and "will never take a step back in strengthening our nuclear force," KCNA quoted the statement as saying.

In addition, North Korea also threatened to make the US "pay a thousand times".

On the same day, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho affirmed that his country has no intention of using nuclear weapons against any country "except the United States".

Speaking in Manila, Philippines, Mr. Ri said North Korea was "ready to teach the US some lessons with strategic nuclear weapons", stressing that Pyongyang was "ready to show that the entire US mainland is within our firing range".

The United Nations Security Council on August 5 voted unanimously to impose new sanctions on North Korea, following the country's recent missile tests.

Accordingly, the US-sponsored resolution bans North Korea from exporting coal, iron, iron ore, lead and lead ore, and seafood. These items bring Pyongyang more than 1 billion USD/year.
