North Korea on February 27 praised a newly developed weapon that it said has the power to turn the enemy's heaviest tanks into "boiled pumpkins".

North Korean media reported that leader Kim Jong-un had watched tests of a portable, laser-guided rocket and claimed it had the "world's longest range" and was "as accurate as a sniper's rifle".

"He was very pleased to know that the enemy's special armored tanks, which are highly mobile and powerful, will also be turned into a boiled pumpkin by North Korea's anti-tank weapons," KCNA said.

Mr. Kim ordered the weapon to be put into mass production as soon as possible and deployed to frontline units and coastal defense.

Despite having a massive army of 1.2 million soldiers, most of North Korea's weapons are believed to be outdated. The country's military also faces a shortage of fuel for its military vehicles.

Following its nuclear and long-range missile tests earlier this year, the United Nations imposed new sanctions on Pyongyang, including a ban on aviation fuel supplies.
