The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on December 13 that the country's leader Kim Jong-un declared that he would turn North Korea into "the world's strongest nuclear power," despite pressure from the United States.

Speaking at a ceremony before workers after Pyongyang's recent missile test, Kim declared that North Korea "will advance on a victorious footing and leapfrog into the strongest military and nuclear power in the world," KCNA said.

Kim Jong-un's remarks come as global powers scramble to find a solution to the North Korean nuclear crisis, with the United States backing tough diplomatic and economic sanctions against Kim's regime to halt Pyongyang's efforts to acquire nuclear weapons.

Previously, on December 12, Vice Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea Thae Jong-su also announced that North Korea had joined the ranks of global nuclear and military powers.

Mr. Thae Jong-su called on the North Korean defense industry to continue to strengthen the national nuclear force in both quantity and quality.

He claimed that North Korea has a solid material and technical foundation in the field of nuclear weapons research to produce any powerful nuclear weapon.

According to him, North Korea has researched and perfected technologies to produce advanced materials, which are the exclusive property of countries considered to be superpowers in the missile field./.
