Speaking to reporters, Foreign Minister Kishida said there was nothing to confirm that the missiles had reached Japan's exclusive economic zone. The head of Japan's foreign ministry affirmed that Toyko would coordinate with Washington and Seoul to collect information and analyze the launch.
Meanwhile, the head of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea fired a series of projectiles that appeared to be surface-to-ship cruise missiles from the vicinity of the eastern coastal city of Wonsan.
The missiles flew about 200 kilometers before falling into the Sea of Japan, bringing North Korea's total ballistic missile launches to nine this year.
Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his counterparts at the G7 Summit agreed that North Korea “poses a new and grave level of threat to international peace and stability. The leaders also “urged Pyongyang to completely and irreversibly end its nuclear and ballistic missile programs”./.
