Microsoft's Edge browser will soon support extensions |
Edge has a lot going for it, but it lacks one feature that most modern web browsers have: third-party extension support.
However, Liliputing recently cited a source from a number of Microsoft employees saying that this feature will be integrated into Edge as soon as possible. WinBeta and Thurrott also simultaneously reported that the Edge version in the latest Windows 10 update for the Windows Insider Preview program will include the ability to support extensions. The new feature is expected to officially reach users around June this year.
By introducing this feature, Microsoft is giving developers the same opportunity as on Chrome or Firefox to add new features to Edge through extensions.
Popular extensions for browsers today include: blocking ads running on the web, downloading videos from YouTube and other online websites, adjusting the behavior of browser tabs, managing bookmarks, passwords...
