'Planting trees and afforestation' in Quy Chau, Que Phong
(Baonghean) - Taking advantage of the hot weather, these days, Quy Chau and Que Phong districts are actively planting raw material forests.
In Nam Xai village, Quang Phong commune (Que Phong), people are urgently planting raw material forests. Mr. Lo Van Quyen in Nam Xai village said: With the technical staff of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve guiding us on forest planting techniques, we have completed the process of treating the ground cover and started digging holes to plant forests; currently, 4 hectares of forest have been planted, mainly Australian acacia (a perennial tree variety, to increase product value).

According to Mr. Vi Thai Diep - Chairman of Quang Phong Commune People's Committee: This year, Quang Phong commune planted 270 hectares of forest under the Forest Protection and Development Project, in which people registered to plant an additional 100 hectares of raw material forest, to increase the total number of planted forests this year to 370 hectares.
The above area has long been mainly used for traditional slash-and-burn farming, a long-standing farming practice with low economic efficiency and a great impact on the ecological environment. Therefore, the commune has reviewed the planning of slash-and-burn production to plant acacia, which is the right direction, creating stability in production and minimizing deforestation.
The concentrated forest planting parallel to the traffic routes in Quang Phong commune is currently quite favorable, opening up a "breakthrough" economic development direction for the people here.
In Minh Tien village, Chau Hanh commune (Quy Chau), Mr. Duy Quyen said: My family registered to plant 1.2 hectares of hybrid acacia with foreign seeds. Currently, over 60% of the area has been planted. It is estimated that the planting will be completed in about 8-10 days.
The new feature this year is that families mobilized manpower to help each other dig holes to plant forests, so the progress of forest planting was faster than other years. Previously, we planted trees without fertilizing, now following the instructions of the technical staff, we fertilize 0.2 kg of biofertilizer per tree…
In 2016, Quy Chau district plans to plant 1,600 hectares of raw material forest, of which Project 147 assigned 600 hectares (the remaining 800 hectares were planted by the people themselves). Since the beginning of April 2016, the district has implemented the planting. Up to this point, the whole district has planted over 500 hectares of forest, mainly hybrid acacia cuttings and foreign acacia seeds.
Communes with over 50% progress in forest planting include Chau Binh, Chau Hanh, Dien Lam, and Chau Nga. The raw material forest planting season will end in August 2016. It is estimated that this year, Quy Chau will plant raw material forests exceeding the target by about 200 hectares (equivalent to 1,800 hectares).
