Growing Malabar spinach effectively in Nam Dan. |
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam in hamlet 5 said that her family grows nearly 2 sao of Malabar spinach, which is more effective than other crops.
This plant has a low initial investment, only sowing once and giving income in many crops in a year. With that efficiency, initially only 5 hectares were planted as a pilot in hamlets 5 and 6, but now it has been expanded throughout the commune with a total area of 15 hectares. Many households have invested in automatic irrigation systems to increase productivity and improve crop quality. It is calculated that 1 hectare of Malabar spinach brings in an income of 230 million VND/year.
In addition to Malabar spinach, every home garden in Nam Thai also grows fruit trees such as apples, persimmons, tangerines, etc., mostly tangerines. Implementing the commune's policy of renovating mixed gardens, Mr. Le Van Khoi in hamlet 6 planted more than 100 tangerine trees, 2 sao of Malabar spinach, and a small area of green tea. Because the plants are suitable for the soil and land, his family earns hundreds of millions of dong each year.
Ms. Bui Thi Oanh - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Nam Dan district said: There have been many production models with high efficiency and large areas such as: Ly flowers in Nam Anh and Nam Xuan communes; bitter melon and chives in Nam Xuan commune; spinach in Nam Thai; watermelon in Nam Tan; green squash in Van Dien; flower growing in Kim Lien, Xuan Hoa, town; vegetables in Xuan Hoa; corn for feed for dairy cows in Nam Loc and Khanh Son... with an income of over 200 million VND/ha/year.
