Solemn celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Military Region 4's Armed Forces Tradition Day

(Baonghean.vn) - On October 15, the Military Region 4 Command held a rally to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Military Region 4's Armed Forces tradition day (October 15, 1945 - October 15, 2015).

Attending the ceremony were Comrade Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy Prime Minister; General Do Ba Ty, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Lieutenant General Vo Trong Viet, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Leaders of the military branches of the Vietnam People's Army, representatives of central ministries and branches; leaders of provinces in Military Region 4.

Attending the commemorative rally, on the Lao side, there were Lieutenant General Suvon Luongbunmi, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People's Army and leaders of 10 provinces of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

On October 15, 1945, the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh decided to establish Military Zone 4, including the provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue. And this day has become the traditional day of the armed forces of Military Zone 4 every year.

During 70 years of building, fighting and growing, the armed forces of the Military Region have always upheld the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" and the tradition of the brave homeland of Binh - Tri - Thien and the steadfast Thanh - Nghe - Tinh, together with all classes of people, creating heroic feats.

During the 9 years of resistance against the French colonialists, the army and people of the three provinces of Binh - Tri - Thien upheld the spirit of a "rebellious Quang Binh", "resilient Quang Tri", "brave Thua Thien"; the army and people of Thanh - Nghe - Tinh promoted the role of the strategic rear, simultaneously carrying out two missions of "anti-imperialism" and "anti-feudalism", both resisting and building... contributing significantly with the army and people of the whole country to create the Dien Bien Phu victory that resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world.

During the resistance war against the US, Military Region 4 was the frontline against the US in the socialist North, the direct rear of the great frontline in the South. The army and people of Military Region 4 fought tenaciously, together with friendly units, winning great victories in many important campaigns, changing the situation on the battlefield, contributing to the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.

Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong, alternate member of the Party Central Committee and Commander of Military Region 4, read a speech on the 70th anniversary of the heroic tradition of the Military Region 4.

Units of Military Region 4 participated in the fight to protect the southwestern border and the northern border; With the spirit of impartial and pure internationalism, Military Region 4 helped the Lao government destroy bandits, build bases, consolidate the revolutionary government, help people stabilize their lives; contributed to maintaining and strengthening the special solidarity and friendship between the Party, State, Army and people of the two countries.

Promoting revolutionary heroism in combat, entering a new stage of construction and development, the armed forces of the Military Region have closely coordinated with Party committees, authorities, forces and people in the localities to play a core role in building a national defense associated with the people's security posture, building solid defense areas on all three fronts: sea, islands, border, and inland; as well as participating in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, socio-economic development, building cultural highlights, preventing, rescuing, and protecting people's lives and property with high efficiency.

After 70 years of building, fighting and growing, with one victory after another, the Military Region's armed forces have been honored by the Party and State with 2 Gold Star Orders, 2 Ho Chi Minh Orders, 2 Independence Orders; 1,047 collectives and 393 individuals have been awarded the titles of Hero of the People's Armed Forces and Hero of Labor, including 14 units awarded the title of Hero in the Renovation Period, along with many other noble awards.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai congratulated and believed that the armed forces of Military Region 4 will uphold their tradition and successfully carry out their tasks in the coming time.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai warmly commended and congratulated the armed forces of the Military Region on their outstanding achievements and feats of arms over the past 70 years.

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that with 70 years of building, fighting and growing, the armed forces of Military Region 4 will continue to unite, be unanimous and make efforts to successfully implement the Resolution of the 10th Congress of the Military Region and Army Party Committees, the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress and the focus on the "Strategy for protecting the Fatherland in the new situation"; proactively coordinate with localities to successfully carry out the renovation, economic development, and build a strong national defense posture.
