Trump thanks Putin for 'very nice' Christmas letter

US President-elect Donald Trump shared a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin, carrying a Christmas message and a call to restore the framework of bilateral cooperation.

"A very nice letter from Vladimir Putin, his thoughts are right," CNN quoted Mr. Trump as saying on December 23 and sending thanks. "I hope both sides can meet these thoughts correctly and we don't have to go the other way."

Putin opened the December 15 translation of the letter provided by Mr Trump's team with "warmest Christmas and New Year wishes".

The Russian President said that the global and regional challenges that Russia and the United States have been facing in recent years show that relations between the two countries remain an important element ensuring stability and security in the modern world.

Mr. Putin also hopes that after Trump takes office as US president, the two countries can make real progress, aiming to "restore the framework of bilateral cooperation", upgrading relations to a new level of quality, in a constructive and realistic spirit.
