"A very nice letter from Vladimir Putin, his thoughts are very correct," CNN quoted Mr. Trump as saying on December 23 and sending thanks. "I hope both sides can meet these thoughts correctly and we don't have to go the other way."
Putin began the translation of the December 15 letter provided by Mr. Trump's team, sending "warmest Christmas and New Year wishes."
The Russian President said that the global and regional challenges that Russia and the United States have been facing in recent years show that the relationship between the two countries remains an important element ensuring stability and security in the modern world.
Mr. Putin also hopes that after Trump takes office as US president, the two countries can make real progress, aiming to "restore the framework of bilateral cooperation", upgrading relations to a new level of quality, in a constructive and realistic spirit.
During his annual press conference in Moscow yesterday, Mr. Putin also said that the US and Russia "need to discuss measures to normalize relations." "During the election campaign, Mr. Trump said normalization was appropriate, the situation should not worsen, and I agree with him," the Russian President said./.
