Trump sends New Year's greetings to enemies

(Baonghean.vn) - Just a few hours before the New Year knocked on the door, US President-elect Donald Trump sent his New Year's greetings for 2017. The special thing about Mr. Trump's greetings is that they were sent to even those who oppose him.

On his personal Twitter page, Mr. Trump wrote: “Happy New Year to everyone, including my enemies and those who ran against me and lost. They just didn’t know what to do. Love!”

Mr Trump's "strange" wish came as he was in the middle of a public storm over his relationship with Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

On December 30, President Putin sent his annual New Year’s greetings to Mr. Trump instead of Mr. Obama. The Russian leader expressed hope that after Mr. Trump officially took office, the two countries would “act in a constructive and positive way, thereby fully restoring the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation.”

President-elect Trump frequently uses his personal Twitter account to mark the holidays with “sarcastic” messages to his opponents - a style that few leaders have used before.

In 2013, he wrote, “Happy Thanksgiving to all — even the haters and losers.”

Also in 2013, he wrote a similar message on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, saying, “I want to send my best wishes to everyone, even those who hate me.”
