China pledges to respect other countries' sovereignty
(Baonghean.vn) - At the second Belt and Road Initiative International Cooperation Forum (BRF) taking place in Beijing (China), the country pledged to promote cross-border infrastructure initiatives while still respecting the "sovereignty and territorial integrity" of other countries.
Specifically, Beijing pledged to cooperate with other countries to protect intellectual property rights, while expressing support for a "rules-based, open, transparent and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system" in which the World Trade Organization (WTO) "plays a core role."

In the draft, China stressed that all countries "are equal partners in cooperation", amid concerns that the Beijing-led infrastructure program will over-promote China's economic influence on the international stage. "We will strive to build high-quality, reliable and sustainable infrastructure," the draft joint statement said.
Beijing is using the Belt and Road Initiative (BRF) as an opportunity to expand its economic influence across Eurasia, but the infrastructure project has been criticized for its lack of transparency and burdening recipient countries with debt.
