Chinese authorities have warned foreign companies of the dire consequences of refusing to supply technology to Chinese companies, the New York Times reported, citing sources.

This information was communicated to the companies in closed meetings on June 4 and 5, the newspaper said.

Specifically, invited to attend the meeting are American companies Microsoft and Dell, British ARM, as well as South Korean Samsung Electronics and Hynix.

From the Chinese side, representatives of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the country participated.

The publication notes that the participation of such high-level representatives suggests that the negotiations were carried out with the permission of China's highest levels of management.

“This is an extremely delicate step now, because the Trump administration, through its brinkmanship, has destabilized all relationships, trade and otherwise,” said Scott Kennedy, a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

On May 16, the US Department of Commerce added Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei and 70 of its affiliates to the blacklist. Subsequently, Google, Intel, Qualcomm, Xilinx and Broadcom announced that they would end their cooperation with Huawei.
