Mr. Shi Yi said that on September 17, the guided-missile destroyer USS Barry passed through the Taiwan Strait. The Eastern Theater Command of China organized to monitor and escort the ship along the entire route through this strait.
"The United States has repeatedly taken such provocative actions, which shows that the United States is the party that violates peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, posing a risk to security," Shi Yi said in a statement posted on the official account of the Eastern Theater Command on the WeChat social network.
Mr. Shi Yi stressed that the Chinese military is ready to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and security, as well as regional peace and stability.
On September 18, there was news that the Chinese government was conducting offensive drills in the area of Taiwan island in response to provocations from the US. This was reported in the Global Times newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party.
The Chinese military has drawn up a scenario for a large-scale campaign involving various branches of the military to attack and land on the island. According to military expert Song Zhongping, China has conducted military exercises before actually invading Taiwan.
