China calls on the US to respect the rights of companies participating in Nord Stream 2
All countries should fully respect the autonomy of companies in cooperating with companies from other countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said, commenting on letters from the US Ambassador to Germany to companies investing in the Nord Stream 2 project.

Earlier, media reported that Mr. Grennel had sent letters to several German companies and hinted at the possibility of imposing sanctions from the US because these companies supported the construction of the pipeline.
The ambassador's representative explained that this should not be seen as a threat, but as a "clear expression of US policy". The German Foreign Ministry considered these letters a provocation.
"We have paid attention to the relevant messages and also the strong reactions to them in Germany," Hua Chunying said at a briefing.
She stressed that companies from all countries have the right to make decisions about cooperation and maintain communication with companies from other countries. "Any country and any person must fully respect this," the Chinese diplomat added.
